Our organisation:
The Deviszont Community Space is an initiative that provides young people in vocational education and training with an alternative learning and leisure opportunity. We organise project-based activities based on critical pedagogy and experiential education on a weekly basis. Our aim is for our students to learn about the world and society around them, and to become informed adults and active citizens.
Deviszont brings together professionals from different backgrounds, with years of experience in education, social assistance and running NGOs. Many of them have ties to South-Pest themselves, having grown up in Pestszentlőrinc and Kispest. When we decided to set up an educational programme, the choice of location was not an issue: we wanted to give back to the community where we grew up. It was also important to us to offer young people living in the area an attractive leisure opportunity in their own environment. Strengthening the local community is a priority: we are constantly looking for opportunities to work with organisations and businesses in the South West, and we want young people to see the value and role models in their local community. We have been renting our premises in the Vigadó in Kispest from the Municipality of the 19th district for years, where other organisations also hold cultural programmes.
We opened our community space in November 2018 and since then we have had over 50 visitors and 20-25 young people regularly visit the space. In addition to our weekly projects, we regularly organise alternative classroom sessions, which give us the opportunity to bring our programme to as many young people as possible.
Deviszont’s target group of young people who are not of compulsory school age but still in education and training rarely appear on the radar of educational initiatives, so our activities are a niche in Hungary. Our activities are based on young people’s interests and experiences, with a focus on mutual learning, community and active citizenship, rather than on catching up.

The Deviszont Community Space is maintained through grants and individual contributions. With your help, we can operate more predictably, and your support contributes to the costs of organising sessions, renting and maintaining the space, providing the necessary materials and equipment, snacks and participation in external programmes. If our social engagement is close to you, we invite you to consider becoming a permanent supporter! In addition to the predictability, it’s great to know that we have a community behind us that we know we can count on. We want to operate as much as possible with community funding, as this is transparent and share responsibility, which are important values for us.
